Leglosen refers to a condition or characteristic where an organism lacks legs or has significantly reduced or non-functional legs. This absence of limbs can be a natural evolutionary trait, a result of genetic mutation, or a consequence of injury or disease.

Many animals exhibit leglessness as a primary mode of locomotion. Snakes are perhaps the most well-known example, having evolved from legged ancestors to a form entirely devoid of limbs, relying on muscular contractions of their bodies to move. Other examples include various species of lizards, such as slow worms, which are essentially legless lizards. In the marine environment, fish are inherently legless, with fins serving as their primary appendages for movement.

Invertebrates also display leglessness. Many types of worms, including earthworms and leeches, lack legs entirely. Certain insect larvae, like grubs, may also appear legless or possess only rudimentary appendages.

In some cases, leglessness can be an abnormality in an animal that typically possesses legs. This could be due to developmental issues during embryogenesis, genetic disorders, or physical trauma. Organisms that are legless often develop alternative methods for movement and survival, such as burrowing, slithering, or swimming, and may have specialized sensory organs to compensate for the lack of limbs. The term can also be used metaphorically to describe something that is unsupported or lacks a foundation, though its primary biological meaning relates to the physical absence of legs.
