Lattialämmitysjärjestelmä, known in English as underfloor heating, is a heating system that warms a building's floor from beneath. It provides a comfortable and even distribution of heat throughout a room. There are two main types of underfloor heating systems: electric and hydronic.

Electric underfloor heating systems use electric resistance cables or mats installed beneath the flooring. These systems are typically easier and quicker to install than hydronic systems and are often used for smaller areas or renovations. They are controlled by a thermostat, similar to other electric heating systems.

Hydronic underfloor heating systems, also called wet systems, use a network of pipes through which heated water circulates. This water is typically heated by a boiler or a heat pump. The pipes are usually embedded in a concrete slab or installed in joist cavities. Hydronic systems are generally more energy-efficient for larger areas and are considered a more cost-effective option for new construction.

Both types of systems offer several advantages, including consistent warmth, improved energy efficiency compared to traditional radiators, and a discreet aesthetic as there are no visible radiators. The heat rises from the floor, creating a pleasant ambient temperature. Installation can vary in complexity depending on the system type and the existing building structure. Maintenance requirements are generally low for both electric and hydronic systems, though periodic checks of components like thermostats or pumps may be recommended.
