Lateralisatsioon, also known as brain lateralization or hemispheric lateralization, refers to the observation that the two hemispheres of the brain, the left and the right, tend to specialize in different cognitive functions. This specialization means that certain tasks are performed more efficiently by one hemisphere than the other.

For example, in most right-handed individuals, the left hemisphere is dominant for language processing, including speaking, understanding, and writing. It is also often associated with logical reasoning, mathematical abilities, and sequential processing.
