A Landgestüt, plural Landgestüte, is a state-run stud farm or breeding facility in German-speaking countries, most notably Germany. It functions as a center for the breeding, evaluation, and promotion of horses—primarily warmbloods used in sport and riding—and often coordinates public breeding programs with private breeders and breed associations. Landgestüte typically maintain breeding stock, oversee stallion selection and performance testing, register foals and manage studbooks, and provide training, education, and public outreach.
