küünarnukikanali

The term "küünarnukikanali" refers to the cubital tunnel, a passageway in the elbow region through which the ulnar nerve travels. This nerve originates in the neck and extends down the arm, passing through the cubital tunnel before reaching the hand. The cubital tunnel is formed by bone and fibrous tissue, and it provides a route for the ulnar nerve to pass behind the medial epicondyle of the humerus (the inner bony prominence of the elbow).

Compression or irritation of the ulnar nerve within the cubital tunnel can lead to a condition known as cubital tunnel syndrome. Symptoms commonly include numbness and tingling in the little finger and half of the ring finger, pain in the elbow, and weakness in the hand. These symptoms can be exacerbated by prolonged or repeated bending of the elbow.

Several factors can contribute to cubital tunnel syndrome. Direct pressure on the nerve, such as from leaning on the elbow for extended periods, can cause irritation. Stretching of the nerve, which may occur when the elbow is bent for a long time, can also lead to symptoms. Swelling around the elbow due to injury or arthritis can reduce the space within the cubital tunnel, compressing the nerve. Anatomical variations in the tunnel can also predispose individuals to this condition. Treatment often involves conservative measures like splinting, activity modification, and physical therapy. In some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to relieve pressure on the ulnar nerve.
