Külmkappides is a colloquial Estonian term referring to refrigerators or freezers. These are essential household appliances designed for food preservation by maintaining a low internal temperature. The primary function of a külmkapp is to slow down the decomposition of food, thereby extending its shelf life and preventing the growth of spoilage-causing microorganisms.

The compressor increases the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant, which then releases heat to the surroundings in the condenser.
