kúami
Kúami is a term that refers to a specific type of musical instrument originating from the Yoruba people of Nigeria. It is a percussion instrument, often classified as a type of gourd drum or friction drum. The construction typically involves a gourd or a hollowed-out wooden body, over which a membrane, usually made of animal skin, is stretched. A string or a rope is attached to the center of this membrane, and when this string is rubbed or agitated, it causes the membrane to vibrate, producing a distinctive sound.
The sound produced by a kúami is often described as deep, resonant, and sometimes moaning or buzzing.
