Képfelismerés, also known as image recognition, is a technology that enables computers to identify and classify objects or features within digital images. This field is a sub-branch of computer vision and artificial intelligence. The process typically involves analyzing an image, extracting relevant features, and then comparing these features to a database of known patterns.

Early methods relied on hand-crafted feature detectors, such as edge detectors or corner detectors. However, with the advent of deep learning, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs), image recognition has seen significant advancements. CNNs can automatically learn hierarchical representations of features directly from raw pixel data, leading to much higher accuracy in complex tasks.

The applications of image recognition are vast and diverse. They include facial recognition for security and authentication, object detection in autonomous vehicles to identify pedestrians and other vehicles, medical image analysis for diagnosing diseases, content-based image retrieval, and quality control in manufacturing. Image recognition systems can identify specific objects, scenes, activities, and even emotions within an image.

Challenges in image recognition include variations in lighting, scale, viewpoint, and occlusion, where objects are partially hidden. Developing robust algorithms that can handle these variations is an ongoing area of research. The continuous improvement in hardware (like GPUs) and the availability of large annotated datasets have been crucial drivers of progress in this domain.
