Käyttövoimien, a Finnish term, translates to "propulsion methods" or "power sources" in English. This refers to the various ways in which vehicles, machinery, or other systems are powered to perform their intended function. Historically, and continuing into the present, these methods have evolved significantly.

Early forms of käyttövoimien relied heavily on manual labor, animal power, and natural forces like wind and water. The advent of the Industrial Revolution introduced steam power, which revolutionized transportation and manufacturing. Subsequently, the internal combustion engine became a dominant käyttövoima, utilizing fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel.
