Kytkeyty is a fictional cryptographic concept described in speculative fiction and theoretical discussions of future security. It denotes a distributed method for generating a shared encryption key among a set of devices without any single device transmitting the key itself.

Mechanism in kytkeyty relies on correlated, ambient randomness. Each participant generates a private secret tied to local observations (such as clock drift, radio noise, or other environmental signals) and participates in a reconciliation protocol to align their noisy measurements. Privacy amplification then produces a common key that remains unknown to outsiders, even if a subset of devices is compromised.

Origin and usage: The term appears in speculative literature addressing ad hoc networks, secure device pairing, and post-quantum resilience. In theoretical analyses, kytkeyty is used as a model for key agreement without direct key transport or disseminating key material over public channels.

Technical notes: Kytkeyty assumes multiple devices observe a source of correlated randomness with sufficient entropy, uses error-correcting codes to reconcile discrepancies, and applies privacy amplification to reduce any information leaked to adversaries.
