Kvanttisuudella, also known as quantum supremacy, refers to the point at which a quantum computer can perform a task that is infeasible for classical computers. This concept was introduced by John Preskill in 2012 to describe the potential of quantum computers to solve certain problems much faster than the most powerful classical computers. Quantum supremacy is not about quantum computers being generally faster than classical computers, but rather about their ability to solve specific problems more efficiently.

The primary advantage of quantum computers lies in their use of quantum bits, or qubits, which can exist in multiple states simultaneously thanks to a property called superposition. This allows quantum computers to process a vast amount of information at once, potentially leading to breakthroughs in fields such as cryptography, optimization, and material science.

However, achieving quantum supremacy is a significant challenge. Quantum computers are highly sensitive to their environment and require extremely low temperatures to operate, making them difficult to build and maintain. Additionally, error rates in quantum computations are currently high, which can lead to incorrect results.

Despite these challenges, several companies and research institutions are actively working towards achieving quantum supremacy. Google, for instance, claimed to have reached this milestone in 2019 with their Sycamore processor, which performed a specific calculation in 200 seconds that would have taken the world's most powerful classical supercomputer approximately 10,000 years to complete. However, this claim has been met with skepticism and debate within the scientific community.
