Kvanttilaskelmat, or quantum computing, is a fundamentally different approach to computation than classical computing. Instead of using bits that represent either 0 or 1, quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits. Qubits can exist in a superposition of both 0 and 1 simultaneously, meaning they can represent a much wider range of information.

This superposition, along with quantum phenomena like entanglement, allows quantum computers to perform certain types of calculations exponentially faster than even the most powerful classical supercomputers. Entanglement links qubits together in such a way that their states are correlated, regardless of the distance between them.

The potential applications of quantum computing are vast and transformative. They could revolutionize drug discovery and materials science by simulating molecular interactions with unprecedented accuracy. They also hold promise for breaking current encryption methods, necessitating the development of quantum-resistant cryptography. Qubits are very sensitive to environmental noise, such as temperature fluctuations and vibrations, which can cause errors in calculations.
