kuppelin

Kuppelin is a former municipality in the province of central Finland, located in the region of Pirkanmaa. It was a continuation municipality, meaning it consisted of a town (Kangasala) and several surrounding rural municipalities (Kangasala, Tottijärvi and Pohjois-Koski). Kuppelin has its administrative seat in Kangasala. Kuppelin was created on January 1, 2004 when Kangasala, Tottijärvi and Pohjois-Koski municipal unions were merged into the current municipality.

The municipality had a total area of 1350.90 square kilometers, and as of 2005, the population was 8,910 inhabitants making it the 178th most populated municipality in Finland. Kuppelin municipality was situated in the Finland Proper province and achieved full status as a municipality in 1868. It was disbanded in 2008 when it was merged with the neighboring municipalities of Kangasala and Akaa to form the new municipality of Akaa.

The region's climate is characterized by four distinct seasons. Winters are generally cold, and the area experiences a considerable amount of snowfall. Summers are warmer and more humid, while springs and autumns are mild and relatively dry. The region's economy is primarily driven by timber and forestry as these are the major industries in the area. The town has a relatively high level of education compared to other parts of Finland. Villages and rural areas in the municipality are predominantly inhabited by agricultural communities.
