Kunstvorm is a Dutch term meaning "art form" and refers to a defined category or medium of artistic expression. The word combines kunst (art) and vorm (form), indicating the way in which an artist conveys content and experience. In practice, kunstvormen group works according to their primary medium or mode of presentation, such as schilderkunst (painting), beeldhouwkunst (sculpture), architectuur (architecture); muziek, theater en dans (performing arts); literatuur; film; fotografie; grafische kunst; en digitale kunst.

Kunstvormen have their own techniques, conventions, and audiences, and they can interact or blend in cross-disciplinary practices. The concept supports curatorial decisions, education, and policy by providing a framework to discuss and compare works. In contemporary art, the boundaries between kunstvormen are increasingly porous, with installations, performance pieces, new media, and multimedia works often combining elements from several forms.

Historically, the term emerged in art historical and educational discourse to classify practices and to facilitate analysis. While useful as a general taxonomy, kunstvorm is not a rigid taxonomy; artists frequently experiment across forms, and new forms may arise with technological and cultural change.
