The effectiveness of a kuivausaine is often measured by its moisture adsorption capacity, which is the amount of water it can hold relative to its own weight. The choice of desiccant depends on factors such as the required level of dryness, the temperature and humidity conditions, the type of product being protected, and cost considerations. Many desiccants are rechargeable, meaning they can be dried out and reused, which can be an environmentally and economically beneficial aspect. When saturated, many desiccants change color, indicating that they need to be replaced or regenerated.
