Koptatások is a Hungarian term that broadly refers to the wearing down or abrasion of surfaces due to friction or impact. This phenomenon can occur in various contexts, from everyday wear and tear on objects to geological processes.

In everyday life, koptatások are commonly observed on items such as shoes, furniture, and tools. The soles of shoes wear down with repeated contact against the ground, and furniture can develop scuff marks or worn patches from regular use. Similarly, tools may exhibit koptatások on their working surfaces after prolonged application. These are often considered signs of age and use, and can sometimes be repaired or mitigated through protective measures.

Geologically, koptatások play a significant role in shaping landscapes. Processes like erosion by wind, water, or ice cause the gradual wearing away of rock and soil. For instance, the abrasion of rocks by sediment carried in rivers or glaciers leads to their smoothing and shaping.
