Alternating copolymers show a regular sequence of monomer units. Block copolymers consist of long sequences, or blocks, of one monomer followed by blocks of another. Graft copolymers have side chains of one monomer attached to a backbone of another.

Synthesis of kopolymmer typically involves polymerizing two monomers simultaneously using techniques such as radical, ionic, or coordination polymerization. The outcome depends on the reactivity ratios of the monomers and the polymerization method. Living or controlled polymerization methods provide greater control over sequence and architecture, enabling precise block or graft structures.

The properties of kopolymmer depend on composition and arrangement. Copolymer composition can alter glass transition temperature, polarity, crystallinity, and mechanical strength, and can improve processability or chemical resistance. Phase behavior is important: random copolymers may be miscible with some solvents, while block copolymers can exhibit microphase separation that yields specialized morphologies.

Common examples include styrene-butadiene copolymers used in tires, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) plastics, and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers.
