konditsioneer

Konditsioneer is a device or system that conditions indoor air to create a more comfortable climate. In Estonian usage, konditsioneer denotes an air conditioning unit. Modern konditsioneers primarily cool the air and dehumidify spaces, and many models also provide heating, filtration, and air purification. They are commonly used in homes, offices, and commercial buildings.

Konditsioneers come in several configurations, including window units, split systems (indoor and outdoor units), portable models, and centralized installations that serve multiple rooms. Most operate on a closed refrigerant cycle: a compressor raises refrigerant pressure, the condenser releases heat outside, the expanded liquid absorbs heat from the room in the evaporator, and a fan circulates the air.

Efficiency is measured by metrics such as SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) for cooling and COP (coefficient of performance) for heating or overall operation. In Europe, energy labels and standards influence design and installation, while refrigerants have shifted toward low-GWP options such as R-410A and newer alternatives to reduce environmental impact.

Maintenance includes regular cleaning or replacement of filters, cleaning of coils, and periodic checks for refrigerant leaks and electrical faults. Proper installation—correct sizing, outdoor unit placement, adequate clearance, proper drainage, and suitable electrical supply—affects performance and safety.

Historically, air conditioning emerged in the early 20th century with Willis Carrier and expanded from industrial use to widespread residential and commercial applications in the mid-20th century.
