Komunikicija, often rendered as komunikacija in some languages, is the process of exchanging information, ideas, and meanings between individuals or groups. It encompasses spoken and written language, nonverbal cues, and increasingly digital media. The term appears in many languages across Europe and beyond, and the concept is central to fields such as linguistics, psychology, sociology, and communications studies. Effective communication requires clarity of message, appropriate channel, audience awareness, and feedback.

Core components include the sender, encoding of the message, the channel, decoding by the receiver, and feedback. Context, culture, and noise influence interpretation. Several models describe the process. The Shannon-Weaver model frames communication as information transfer with potential noise. Berlo's SMCR model emphasizes source, message, channel, and receiver. The transactional model views communication as an ongoing, reciprocal process where participants co-create meaning. Media richness and channel capacity also affect effectiveness, especially in complex or ambiguous messages.

Types and channels: interpersonal (face-to-face), organizational, mass media, and digital or mediated communication. Verbal (spoken or written) and nonverbal (gestures, tone, facial expression) channels convey both content and relational cues. Digital platforms, such as email, messaging, and social networks, add speed and reach but can introduce misunderstandings due to tone absence or information overload. Cross-cultural communication highlights how language, norms, and values shape interpretation.
