Kompaspunten, often referred to as cardinal directions, represent the fundamental points used for orientation and navigation. These are typically North, South, East, and West. North is generally considered the primary reference point, with other directions derived from its position. South is directly opposite North, while East lies to the right of North when facing it, and West is to the left.

These directions are crucial for creating maps, understanding geography, and guiding travel. Historically, they were determined through celestial observations, such as the position of the sun at noon or the rising and setting points of stars. Modern navigation relies on instruments like the magnetic compass, which aligns with the Earth's magnetic field, or GPS systems, which use satellite signals to determine precise location and direction.
