Kommunikeerimine is the process of conveying information, ideas, or intentions from a sender to one or more receivers through a channel. It encompasses the creation, transmission, reception, and interpretation of messages, and is shaped by social context, culture, and technology.

Core elements include the sender, encoding, message, channel, receiver, decoding, feedback, noise, and context. The classical models, such as the Shannon–Weaver model, describe how a message is encoded, transmitted, received, and possibly distorted by noise, while feedback closes the loop.

Kommunikeerimine occurs in various forms: interpersonal (one-to-one), small group, organizational, and mass communication. It can be oral or written, synchronous or asynchronous, and mediated by technology such as telephones, radio, print, or digital networks.

Technology has expanded reach and speed, with the internet, social media, email, and messaging apps changing how messages are crafted, distributed, and interpreted. Digital platforms also introduce new challenges around reach, algorithmic curation, and data privacy.

Effective kommunikeerimine requires clarity, accuracy, and consideration of audience, culture, and context. It may be impeded by noise, bias, language differences, misinformation, and ethical concerns such as manipulation and surveillance. Poor communication can lead to misunderstandings, conflict, or poor decision making.

Applications span education, journalism, business communication, diplomacy, public relations, and everyday interpersonal interaction. Understanding communication processes helps improve information sharing, collaboration, and social cohesion.
