Kogelkop, also known as Vogelkop or the Bird's Head Peninsula, is a large peninsula in the northwest of the Indonesian part of the island of New Guinea. It forms the westernmost projection of the island and lies mainly within the provinces of West Papua, with its interior extending toward the central highlands. The landscape is diverse, ranging from dense lowland rainforest to montane forests and highland plateaus. The Arfak Mountains run along the peninsula’s western side, and Gunung Arfak is its highest peak, standing at about 2,426 meters above sea level.
