Kneepads are protective garments worn on the knee to cushion kneeling surfaces and reduce the risk of injury from impacts, abrasion, or pressure. They typically consist of a padded insert enclosed by a sleeve or outer shell and are secured with straps, elastic, or hook-and-loop fasteners to maintain position during movement.

Use cases include industrial and construction work, flooring installation, gardening, and janitorial tasks, as well as athletic activities such as volleyball, basketball, and roller skating where knee protection is beneficial. They are worn during tasks that involve prolonged kneeling or potential impact.

Design and materials: kneepads range from soft, all-foam or gel pads to hard-shell models. Padding materials include foam, memory foam, or gel; shells may be plastic, composite, or rubber. Outer fabrics vary, including neoprene, nylon, and cotton blends. Closures may be Velcro straps, buckles, or slip-on sleeves; many designs include a non-slip underside and impact-absorbing features.

Fit, care, and safety: proper fit is important to prevent slipping and to maximize protection; select size and strap design to cover the knee while allowing flexion. Most kneepads are washable or have removable inserts; air-dry after cleaning. In safety-critical work environments, kneepads are treated as PPE and may be required to meet regional standards, such as EN 14404 in Europe.
