This automatic operation makes them ideal for preventing backflow in piping systems.

The primary component of a klappventil is a hinged disc. This disc is typically mounted on a pivot pin, allowing it to rotate freely within the valve body. When forward flow occurs, the pressure differential pushes the disc open against a stop or seat. When the flow direction reverses or pressure drops significantly, the disc swings shut, creating a seal against the valve seat and blocking any backward movement of the fluid.

Klappventiler are commonly used in applications such as water supply systems, sewage treatment plants, and industrial process lines where the prevention of backflow is critical for equipment protection and system integrity. They are known for their simple design, low pressure drop in the open position, and reliable operation.
