Kiwivruchten, commonly known as kiwifruit, are edible berries from the genus Actinidia. The most common cultivar is the fuzzy brown-skinned Hayward variety. Kiwifruit are oval-shaped and typically measure about 5-8 centimeters in length. Their flesh is a vibrant green, speckled with numerous small, black, edible seeds arranged in a radial pattern. The flavor is often described as a tangy-sweet blend, with hints of strawberry, banana, and pineapple.

Originally native to China, where they were known as Chinese gooseberries, kiwifruit were introduced to New Zealand in the early 20th century. It was in New Zealand that they were commercially cultivated and eventually renamed kiwifruit, after the country's national bird, the kiwi. Today, kiwifruit are grown in many temperate regions around the world, with major producers including China, Italy, New Zealand, Chile, and Greece.

Kiwifruit are a good source of vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin E, and potassium. They also contain dietary fiber. The fruit can be eaten fresh, peeled or unpeeled, and is often used in fruit salads, smoothies, desserts, and as a garnish. The enzymes present in kiwifruit, particularly actinidin, can tenderize meat, making it a useful ingredient in marinades.
