Kiinteäkerrosreaktorit, known in English as fixed-bed reactors, are a common type of chemical reactor used in various industrial processes. In these reactors, solid catalyst particles are held in a stationary bed, through which the reactants flow. The catalyst facilitates the chemical reaction without being consumed.

Reactants enter at one end of the bed and products exit at the other. The flow can be either upward or downward through the bed. Pressure drop across the bed can also be significant, especially with small catalyst particles or high flow rates. Catalyst deactivation over time due to fouling or sintering is another consideration that requires periodic regeneration or replacement of the catalyst.
