Kieselgur, also known as diatomaceous earth, is a naturally occurring sedimentary rock composed of fossilized diatoms, which are single-celled algae. The skeletons of these diatoms are primarily made of silica. When these diatoms die, their remains accumulate on the bottom of bodies of water, forming a soft, powdery substance. This substance, when extracted and processed, becomes kieselgur.
The fine, porous structure of kieselgur gives it a high surface area and abrasive qualities. These properties
