Kielenkuntoutus (Finnish for speech-language rehabilitation) refers to the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorders and swallowing difficulties. It is provided by licensed speech-language pathologists (Finnish: puheterapeutti, logoped) and is practiced in hospitals, clinics, schools, rehabilitation centers, and sometimes at home. Services may be offered through public health systems or private practice and often involve multidisciplinary teams, including educators, doctors, and occupational or rehabilitation therapists. The field covers developmental conditions in children (articulation and phonological disorders, language delay, stuttering), as well as acquired disorders in adults (aphasia after stroke, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, cognitive-communication disorders), and dysphagia or swallowing disorders.
