The discus itself is a heavy circular object, typically made of metal or wood with a metal rim. Men's discus weighs 2 kilograms (4.4 lbs) and has a diameter of 22 centimeters (8.7 inches), while women's discus weighs 1 kilogram (2.2 lbs) and has a diameter of 18.1 centimeters (7.1 inches).
