A kerékkulcs, also known as a lug wrench or tire iron, is a tool used to remove and install the lug nuts or bolts that secure a vehicle's wheel to its hub. It is a common item found in the toolkit of most automobiles, often stored in the trunk or glove compartment.

The basic design of a kerékkulcs typically involves a handle and a socket end. The socket end is shaped to fit snugly over the lug nut or bolt head. Common configurations include an L-shaped bar with a socket at one end, or a cross-shaped wrench with sockets at each of the four ends, offering different sizes to accommodate various lug nut dimensions. Some more specialized kerékkulcs may also feature a ratchet mechanism for faster operation.

When using a kerékkulcs, it is important to ensure a proper fit on the lug nut to avoid stripping or damaging it. The tool is then turned counter-clockwise to loosen the nuts when removing a wheel, and clockwise to tighten them when installing. For safety, it is recommended to loosen lug nuts slightly before jacking up the vehicle and to fully tighten them only after the wheel is back on the ground. Regular checking of lug nut tightness is also a good practice for vehicle maintenance.
