Kerülkelt is a congenital connective tissue disorder characterized by abnormal deposits of collagen and other connective tissue in various parts of the body. The condition is also known as keloid hypertrophic scar disorder.

People with kerülkelt experience collagen fibers accumulating in the dermis layer of the skin, leading to formation of keloids, which are raised, thick scars that can cause discomfort and discoloration of the skin. These keloids can regrow after surgical excision, a distinguishing feature of the condition.

Kerülkelt often presents itself in various forms, including on the chest, shoulder, and earlobes. It can be inherited, typically following an autosomal dominant pattern, although the frequency of inheritance is not well-documented. Some rare cases may present in adulthood, but it is primarily diagnosed in individuals who are under 40 years old.

The exact cause of kerülkelt remains unclear, although it appears to be a result of collagen misfolding in the skin's tissues. However, damaged skin attempting to heal can trigger the development of the symptoms, meaning that it may occur following previous lacerations, cuts, and burns. Kerülkelt often requires removal of the keloid scar tissue, which poses a significant challenge due to its tendency to grow back. Research has shown that inflammation plays a role in encouraging the progression of this condition.

Researchers continue to explore the genetic link between kerülkelt and other skin conditions. Future studies aim to discover more probable causes of the condition, potentially leading to developing of effective treatments.
