A kegerator is a refrigeration appliance or insulated cabinet designed to store and dispense beer from a keg. It combines a cooling system with a draft system to keep beer cold, carbonated, and ready to pour through a tap.

Most kegerators use a keg and a gas system, typically carbon dioxide (CO2) or a CO2/nitrogen blend. A regulator controls the gas pressure, pushing beer through lines to one or more taps. A coupler attaches the keg to the gas system and the faucet dispenses beer. Some units are built as dedicated kegerator fridges, while others retrofit a standard refrigerator.

Common configurations include freestanding units with one or more taps and built-in or external kegs. Keg sizes vary: many home setups use 5-gallon Cornelius kegs or standard 1/4 or 1/2 barrel kegs. Beers are usually kept at near-cold temperatures, typically around 34 to 40 °F (1 to 4 °C).

Maintenance involves regular cleaning of beer lines and components to prevent bacterial growth and beer spoilage, using approved cleaners and sanitizers. Kegs and regulators should be checked for leaks, and CO2 cylinders require safe storage and periodic replacement. Gas pressure and line cleanliness influence flavor and head retention.

Kegerators offer convenient, fresh beer on tap but can be costly and space-intensive. They require electrical access, appropriate ventilation, and ongoing upkeep to maintain quality.
