Kariekselle is a fictional cellular unit used in speculative biology and science fiction to explore ideas about cellular life and biomineralization. It is not a term recognized in real-world biology, and there is no empirical evidence for organisms by this name outside of imagined contexts. In many treatments, kariekselle serves as a thought experiment to examine how cells might interact with minerals and form protective shells.

In outline, a kariekselle is described as a single-celled organism or cell type with a flexible outer membrane and a specialized biomineralization vesicle. This vesicle deposits minerals, creating a shell or exoskeleton often referred to as karieksellites.
