Kannavalu is a traditional festival celebrated primarily in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, particularly in the districts of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram. The festival holds significant cultural and religious importance, especially among the Tamil-speaking communities, and is often associated with the worship of Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war and victory.

The term "Kannavalu" translates to "the day of the peacock" in Tamil, reflecting the festival's connection to Lord Murugan, who is often depicted riding a peacock. Kannavalu is celebrated on the full moon day of the Tamil month of Aadi (July-August), coinciding with the Hindu month of Aashadha. The festival marks the beginning of the monsoon season and is believed to bring prosperity and good harvests.

Kannavalu is characterized by vibrant processions, traditional music, and dance performances. Devotees gather at temples dedicated to Lord Murugan, such as the famous Palani Andavar Temple in Palani, to participate in the festivities. The processions feature elaborate floats adorned with flowers, lights, and religious symbols, accompanied by drummers and singers.
