Kaivannaisvaltausten refers to the historical practice in Finland where individuals or communities could claim rights to extract natural resources, primarily minerals, from state-owned lands. This concept was deeply rooted in Finnish legal and economic history, particularly during periods when the state sought to encourage resource development and settlement. The system allowed individuals to apply for permits, known as malminetsintälupa or malminvaltausoikeus, which granted them the exclusive right to explore and mine specific areas for a defined period.
These rights were not absolute ownership of the land itself but rather a concession to exploit its
