Players strike the head with the flat of the hand, fingers, or small mallets, producing a deep, earthy tone that can be projected over a crowd.

Origin and name: The term kadcych comes from the Kadchy language, where kad- means sound and -cych denotes a drum. The instrument has several regional variants, including the smaller kadcych-chet and the larger kadcych-bor, differing mainly in size and pitch.

Cultural role: In Kadchy society, the kadcych accompanies communal dance, harvest rites, and storytelling ceremonies. It is traditionally played by a designated drummer who leads the tempo and cues other musicians. The rhythm patterns range from steady, pulse-like grooves to intricate, interlocking ostinatos used to frame narratives.
