Jännitelain, often translated as the "Law of Voltage" or "Voltage Law," refers to fundamental principles in electrical circuit analysis. These laws describe how voltage behaves within electrical circuits, relating voltages across different components.

In its simplest form, jännitelain encompasses two key concepts: Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL) and the principle of voltage division. Kirchhoff's Voltage Law states that the sum of all voltages around any closed loop in a circuit must equal zero. This means that the total voltage supplied by sources within the loop must be dissipated by the components in that loop. In essence, energy is conserved; it is not lost or gained within the loop.

The principle of voltage division, closely related to jännitelain, describes how voltage is distributed across components connected in series. For a series circuit, the voltage across each individual resistor is proportional to its resistance relative to the total resistance of the series combination. This allows for the calculation of voltage drops across specific resistors without needing to know the current flowing through them.
