Isotõuge is an Estonian word that translates to "shot put" in English. It refers to a track and field throwing event where athletes put a heavy metallic ball, the shot, as far as possible. The shot is typically made of iron or brass and its weight varies for men and women, with men using a 7.26-kilogram (16-pound) shot and women using a 4-kilogram (8.8-pound) shot. Competitors stand within a circular throwing area, a pitching circle, and propel the shot with a pushing motion, not a throwing one. The aim is to achieve the greatest distance from the edge of the circle.

The event is part of both indoor and outdoor athletics competitions. The technique involves a combination of strength, speed, and precise body mechanics to generate maximum velocity and force. Athletes often employ techniques such as the glide or the spin to build momentum before releasing the shot. Judging is based on the distance measured from the throwing circle's inner edge to the nearest mark made by the shot in the landing sector. The athlete whose shot travels the furthest wins the event. Isotõuge has been a part of the Olympic Games since their modern revival in 1896.
