In some classifications it is treated as a valid tribe within the subfamily Hesperiinae, while in others its genera are placed in adjacent tribes or even excluded from Hesperiidae altogether. This instability reflects differing data sources and phylogenetic analyses.

The tribe, when defined, has been described as including a small number of tropical genera. Because the exact circumscription is not universal, the morphological characters used to diagnose Isoniaisiini are not consistently applied.
