iskodaki

Iskodaki is a term with origins in the Somali language, often used to describe a type of small, agile dhow or boat. These vessels are traditionally found in the coastal regions of Somalia and the Horn of Africa. They are characterized by their lightweight construction, typically made of wood, and are designed for swift movement through the water.

Historically, iskodaki played a significant role in local maritime trade and fishing. Their size made them suitable for navigating shallow waters and for use in coastal communities where larger vessels might not be practical. The design often incorporates a single sail, though modern versions may also feature small engines.

The term "iskodaki" itself is believed to refer to the boat's speed or its ability to quickly change direction.
