Ionic compounds, or ioniyhdisteissä in Finnish, are chemical compounds composed of ions held together by electrostatic forces. These forces are known as ionic bonds, which arise from the attraction between oppositely charged ions. Typically, ionic compounds form between a metal and a nonmetal.
