An ionisaatori, or ionizer, is a device that uses high voltage to create a corona discharge, which ionizes the air. This process generates negative ions and positive ions. A potential byproduct of some ionization processes is ozone. While ozone can have some air-sanitizing properties at high concentrations, at levels typically produced by consumer ionizers, it is generally considered to be a lung irritant. Therefore, many modern ionizers are designed to minimize ozone production, and regulatory bodies often set limits on the amount of ozone that can be emitted.
