Introgression, also known as introgression or introgressive hybridization, is the transfer of genetic material from one population or species to another through hybridization followed by repeated backcrossing of the hybrid progeny to one of the parent populations. This process can occur between different species, subspecies, or even distinct populations within a species. When hybridization occurs, the resulting hybrid offspring contain genetic material from both parental groups.
