intertextuella

Intertextuella is a term used to describe phenomena, works, and analyses that exhibit intertextuality—the way a text's meaning is shaped by its relations to other texts. It covers deliberate references, echoes, quotations, or mashups where another work informs or revises the present text.

Originating in literary theory, the concept of intertextuella draws on Julia Kristeva's 1960s formulation of intertextuality, which in turn builds on Bakhtin's dialogism. Kristeva argued that all texts are constructed from fragments of earlier writings, making meaning a product of interwoven textual currencies rather than solitary originality.

Common mechanisms include explicit quotation, allusion, pastiche, parody, and stylistic imitation. They can signal homage, critique, or reinterpretation, create resonance for informed readers, or challenge genre conventions by entering a dialog with other works.

Applications span literature, cinema, music, and online media. Analysts use intertextuella to trace networks of reference, understand tonal and thematic borrowing, and examine how cultural memory circulates through texts. Critics caution against overreading mere references or reducing authorship to textual quotation, and they consider context, intent, and audience reception.
