Interception, or intercepce in Czech, is the act of catching, halting, or interrupting something as it moves toward a destination. The term is used across disciplines to describe both the physical capture of an object and the capture of data, signals, or information. In many contexts, interception also implies a deliberate method or authority behind the capture.

In telecommunications and signal processing, interception denotes the capture of communications by a third party, which may be legal (lawful intercept) or illegal. It includes monitoring radio, telephone, or data traffic, often for intelligence, security, or investigative purposes. Methods range from passive listening to data decryption and content analysis.

In military and aviation contexts, interception refers to actions by one platform to detect, identify, and approach a potential threat. This often aims to prevent hostile action or to compel a change in course. Fighter aircraft performing air-defense duties are a common example of interception in practice.
