Innershell is a term used to describe the innermost electron shells of an atom, where electrons experience the strongest Coulomb attraction to the nucleus. In most descriptions, the innermost shell is designated K, followed by L, M, and so on, corresponding to principal quantum numbers n=1, 2, 3. The innermost shells are highly tightly bound, and their binding energies increase with atomic number.
