inflijas

Inflijas is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses of the Orthomyxoviridae family. In many languages the term influenza is used; inflijas is a regional or transliterated variant that refers to the same disease. The illness affects the upper and lower respiratory tract and occurs worldwide.

Symptoms typically include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle or body aches, fatigue, and sometimes headache or chills. Children may experience vomiting or diarrhea. The virus spreads mainly through airborne droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes and can also spread via contaminated surfaces. Incubation is about 1 to 4 days; individuals are usually contagious from one day before symptoms to about seven days after onset.

Diagnosis is usually clinical, supported by laboratory tests such as RT-PCR or rapid antigen tests to detect influenza viruses. Prevention relies on annual vaccination matched to circulating strains, hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and, in some settings, antiviral prophylaxis for high-risk individuals.

Treatment is mainly supportive, including rest, fluids, and antipyretics. Antiviral medications such as oseltamivir or baloxavir are most effective when started within 48 hours of symptom onset and are recommended for high-risk patients or those with severe disease. Most people recover within a week, but outcomes are worse for older adults and those with chronic conditions.
