Ikkelineære is a term used in Dutch to denote nonlinearity. In mathematics, physics and related fields, it describes relationships or systems that do not obey the principle of superposition and cannot be described by linear equations alone. The term corresponds to the English word “nonlinear.”

Nonlinear relationships arise when the dependent variable does not change proportionally with the independent variable, often due to terms such as squares, products, exponentials, or trigonometric functions. For a function f, linearity means f(a x + b y) = a f(x) + b f(y) for all x, y and scalars a, b; nonlinear cases fail this property. Nonlinear models can exhibit multiple equilibria, limit cycles, or chaotic dynamics, and they often show sensitivity to initial conditions.
