A hüperviisori, also known as a virtual machine monitor (VMM), is a piece of software, firmware, or hardware that creates and runs virtual machines. It allows multiple operating systems to share a single hardware host and allows each operating system to run as if it were the only one on the machine. The hüperviisori essentially virtualizes the underlying hardware resources, such as the CPU, memory, and I/O devices, and presents them to each virtual machine.

There are two main types of hüperviisori. Type 1 hüperviisori, also known as bare-metal hüperviisori, run directly on the host's hardware to control the hardware and manage guest operating systems. Examples include VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer. Type 2 hüperviisori, also known as hosted hüperviisori, run on a conventional operating system as a distinct application. Examples include VMware Workstation, Oracle VirtualBox, and Parallels Desktop.

Hüperviisori technology is fundamental to cloud computing, allowing for efficient resource utilization and rapid deployment of services. It enables server consolidation, disaster recovery, and testing environments, providing flexibility and cost savings for organizations.
