Höyryjä is the Finnish partitive plural form of höyry, meaning "steams" or "vapors." As a grammatical form, it denotes an indefinite or partial quantity of vapors and appears in everyday speech and writing when referring to some amount of steam or gaseous emissions.

In physical terms, steam is the gas phase of water produced when liquid water evaporates or boils. Pure water vapor is invisible; the white "steam" commonly seen is a cloud of tiny water droplets formed when hot vapor cools and condenses in air.
